Pieces of KDX200
Howdy y’all, just picked up a 1990 KDX200, disassembled down to the frame. I’m excited to start the project, paid a hundred dollars for everything with the title. The frame was broken and repaired and the PO lost interest in the project.
All the parts appear to be here - any recommendations on the order of assembly and advice are always welcomed.
Cheers!

Re: Pieces of KDX200
Get a manual. How do you want to do this, quickie reassemble or, since it’s already apart, a complete refurbishment?

Welcome to kdxrider.net.
What are your eventual plan for it?
First step is to get the service manual, OEM or Cyclepedia.

Thanks Mates, manual is in its way! Just liking to quickly reassemble. I thought about refurbishment but just want to get it rolling.

Engine first. If the top of the airbox to the rear tip of the spark arrestor is not in order, then you have a statue, not a motorcycle.
The dumbest thing I see people do is to go out and buy new plastic the first thing. "Making it pretty" is the last thing I think should be done, order wise.

You are preaching to the choir my friend, I’m all about performance over aesthetics. Literally everything is there and I like the old plastics - engine is complete and intact just need to lego everything back together.KDXGarage wrote: ↑10:11 pm Apr 20 2021 Engine first. Re: Pieces of KDX200
hell of a deal in my opinion!
The shock on the left looks to be the correct one, just tighten the lock nut for the spring collar.
The one on the right doesn't look to be from a 1989 - 1994, as the reservoir points up to allow for the end of the pipe to pass above it. 1989 - 1994 pipes pass below, so the reservoir is angled down to make room.

Re: Pieces of KDX200
Thank you! I noticed the reservoir difference between the two of them and it made me go hmm. I thought hey it’s $100 bucks why not. I usually can do most diy Maintenace, upgrades, repairs on vehicles and toys especially with the help of you tube so that makes me feel better knowing I got a good deal (and probably my wife more so).KDXGarage wrote: ↑10:52 pm Apr 20 2021 hell of a deal in my opinion!

Thanks for all the input and friendly conversations y’all!

Re: Pieces of KDX200
Ahhh that’s so sweet!!! Cant wait to get mine to at least roll. That’s a good looking bike, it’s been about 15 years since I was on my first bike, a 2000 yz125 and man I’ve wanted another smoker so bad. I didn’t realize how tall the seat is, I’m about 6’ 4” and normally 200 but a recent flu bug dropped me down to 180 - should be a perfect fit!
Thanks for sharing that vid, SS109 is a cool dude I’d ride with him anytime!

While we're on the topic, SS do you still have that bike? I remember your build of that thing was amazing!
