New 2004 Kawasaki KDX 220R Owner.

Post by KDX Connor »

Hey guys, this is my new 2004 Kawasaki KDX 220R that I purchased for $2,400.

Like I said in the following video, thank you KDXer for giving me the part number for the Airbox Mud Flap which is 35019-1323 and can be found at https://www.ronayers.com/. Also, my Kickstand can be found here https://www.ebay.com/itm/KAWASAKI-KDX20 ... 0817140121.

As I said in the video, please let me know what you think the device located on the clutch cable is and if you notice any abnormalities with the sound of the bike.
This is the premix I run along with 5 gallons of 93 octane pump gas at a ratio of 40:1 (let me know your thoughts on that combo?).

This is the transmission oil I run in the bottom end (again let me know your thoughts on it?).

Lastly, thank you for reading this post and I look forward to many good times to come on this forum! :boogie:

Welcome!! Great looking bike. The thing on your clutch cable looks like one of those Moose easy pull clutch doohickies. Supposed to make for easier clutch pull. Premix ratio looks good, and transmission oil doesn't contain friction modifiers so id say you're good to go.

Thanks tropicoz for the insight, like I said I'm most certainly new to this motorcycle stuff. I guess in that case I'll try to stick with the Moose easy pull clutch device and the fluids I'm running. Thank you again for the help!

Great looking bike! Congratulations and welcome to the forum. There's a lot to learn on here and good people helping each other out. The engine sounds good. Check out the jetting guide and the air screw adjustment procedure. It might be a simple turn of a screw to have it starting on the first kick every time hot or cold.

Nice! :supz:

Welcome to kdxrider.net.

Great video. SO EASY to help you! A picture is worth a thousand words. What is a video worth?

Your oil choices look great.

Liketropicoz said, Moose EZ Pull (something like that)

HECK YEAH!! on the handguards, FMF pipe, spark arrestor, Scott's rear dsic guard and FRP kickstarter.

Look on www.partzilla.com for OEM parts. You will have to sign in to see the prices.

One thing I noticed was the headlight socket has non-standard wiring and the rubber cover is off. Look on here, ebay parts pictures, Partzilla or kawasaki.com parts diagram, etc. to see pics of the stock configuration. I would be nervous on washing the bike with the headlight socket like that.

Also, it is idling a TOUCH too high for my taste, but otherwise sounds fine.

Did you have the choke already pulled up when you kickstarted it?

Thanks Jason for the heads up on the wiring. I will for sure look into that! With regards to the idling I did not have the choke on at all during the entire video. That was a no choke cold start. I think it might of been idling a bit high cause I nicked the throttle by accident when I first got it started cause it sounded like it was going to die. Other than that, once it is warmed up it idles nice and low like a dream and never dies out. Regardless, thank you again for the help. Needless to say, I got a lot to learn!

Any reason you did not pull up the choke to start it?

You can download the owner's manual from www.kawasaki.com under Owner Info. You don't have to put your real e-mail address. It just goes right to it on the screen.

On any KDX220R, a lot of us recommend changing out the piston if it is stock. There are a few threads on here where the stock piston shattered.

Knowing me no logical and or mechanical reason  . I guess I just still come from the four stroke mentality where if it will start and run without the choke I won't use it. However, I'm assuming it's gonna be a different story for me when it gets into the colder months lol.

Welcome to the forum! Your KDX looks like it was kept in great shape. As Jason noted, I'd put a Wiseco piston in first thing unless you know 100% sure that it doesn't have the stock piston still in the motor. It is an $170 insurance policy that could save your whole motor. Have fun and enjoy!

Pull the choke up so you don't have to kick it four times.
