How did I get here?

Post by ImNotARobot »

I worked a lot with kawasaki 2 strokes in the early '70s. If I recall correctly they were all disc valves back then. Carbs all mounted on the throttle side of the crancases on the singles.
I think the F11 (predecessor to the kx) was the first non disc valve kawasaki trail bike.
I had a few bikes since I attempted to race moto cross on a gen 1, KX 250
And last 2 stroke I owned was an RD 350.
So to scratch my 2 stroke itch and desire for a new project I went looking for a little bike that I could spend some time, energy and hopefully not too much money on .

Did all that pour out when you pulled the flywheel cover? If so, I'd guess an owners manual, fly wheel puller, case splitter, and new crank bearings/seals look to be in that bike's future  best of luck to ya! Congrats on the bike tho!

That's a lot of liquid.

Check the there indened areas behind the stator plate. See if it is leaking there. Read up on it at the Eric Gorr website our search for his page with a few pages of his book. I think it shows the KX 60.

My first two bikes were rotary valved. 76 kd125 and 79 kd175 I believe. That 175 was bulletproof, and the 125 taught me over 15 years to choose my projects wisely.
Can you tell what that fluid is? Could be water that got in through the wire grommet. That's a lot of fluid though. How's the rust?
