My (not so) new KDX
Hello all,
Picked this up a few weeks ago. Seller told me it's a 1998. Didn't run when I got it, but after a thorough carb cleaning and new fluids throughout, it is a screamer.

Re: My (not so) new KDX
Welcome to the board. Your bike is an E-Series, 1989-1994. Looks like someone did a fork swap on it. If I were you, I'd get a set of fork slider protectors, they'll make your fork seals last longer, and keep the sliders from getting dinged and scratched from rocks kicked up by someone's roost.

10th digit of the VIN is an "R"
According to another post I saw, that should be a '94.
Fork protectors are definitely on the "stuff to buy" list.

Re: My (not so) new KDX
What's the best way to identify which forks are on it?

Go to www.kdrrider.net and join up. Some people are dumbasses, but some know what they are doing.
The lower clamp only having on bolt is a KDX trait.
Measure the lower inner tubes. They should be 41 mm. I am guessing someone stripped the blue anodizing off the outside of the upper fork tubes.
You said it was a 1994, so that wuld make sense, as 1993 and 1994 came with the USD forks that look like that, except blue.
There is also supposed to be fork guards on there and a tripmeter / odometer cable.

Re: My (not so) new KDX
This appears to be correct(the fork details and the statement about dumbasses).
Also, the forks have bolt holes for slider guards and the hub has an odometer drive.
Thank you

Re: My (not so) new KDX
The fork guards have a ring on them to run the odo cable through, and there was a rectangular bracket on the stock fender to run it through there, too.
Just look on google images and it will make more sense

Also, the rear axle is in backwards (the snail adjusters are upside down), I don't know where that kickstarter came from but it's not the right one, and your front brake hose is routed on the wrong side of the fork tube, it should be to the inside to protect it from snagging. Since the PO said it was a 98 he obviously was one of the dumbasses...I'd take the time to look over the bike thoroughly and find all the shortcuts that have been made, will save you headaches in the long run to sort those things out.

It is a our sister site still in development. DOWN AND DURTY!! LOLbufftester wrote:lol, says the admin who typed kdRrider.netJason wrote:Go to http://www.kdrrider.net and join up. Some people are dumbasses, but some know what they are doing.
And I did not say which group of non-dumbasses / dumasses I was in.
To the OP (and others), I am kind of digging the narrower front fender (seems to be from a 1995+ KDX).
If you have more questions on your 1994, please ask. Good luck with it.
Just in case you did not see from searching old posts (which contain a ton of information), the 1994 KDX200 was the last of what was known in the USA as the "E" series. That was 1989 - 1994, with the last version being the 1995 - 2006 style.
