96' KDX200 rebuild [FINISHED]
Hi, I'm Cédric from Belgium. I'm 36 years old and I work as webdesigner. My first bike was a 2001 Gas Gas EC 200 in 2004, then a Fantic 125 in 2009. Since I complety stopped motorcycle, sold the bikes, gears, etc (family, house, baby, you know). Now I restart slowly.
I intended to buy a recent road legal YZ 125 and finally I just bought this 96 KDX 200, more suited to my riding skills
It works well for her age but as you see on the pictures it needs maintenance and this winter I'd like to completely restore it. Frame powercoating, "new" motor, rebuilding suspension (maybe a kx fork), new plastics, etc. Depending of my mechanic skills (as limited as my riding skills ) and $$$$

Re: My first KDX (200 96)
Salut! Looks decent for a 96... Front sprocket might be a bit worn but still has life in it. Since you take good closeup pictures, do you mind taking a picture of the swingarm (chain side)? I'm missing the "rubber protector" that runs near the front sprocket and can't find any good pictures of what it should look like. Making myself one...

I'm from Chièvres, near Mons. There's an US Air Force base, so many Americans live in the area :)diymirage wrote: just curious, what part of belgium are you from ?

ced: Nice looking first KDX. That should give you something to keep busy over winter.
That protector generally isn't rubber but rather a strong wearing plastic, and without it your chain could wear into the swingarm. The hotfootmoto folks make a nice product that I've installed on the KLX and KLR. http://hotfootmoto.net/store/product.ph ... 281&page=1Bitteeinit wrote:Salut! Looks decent for a 96... Yes! Thanks for the info guys. When you get a moment, can you measure the length of that plastic? Even a rough estimate would be ok. At the moment I have no choice: I'm going to use a very hard rubber. But I think the piece I have now is too short...ced64k wrote:You mean this ?

Whatever lens you were using for the first batch of shots has great DOF. Please tell me that was not a cellphone.

Re: My first KDX (200 96)
Little update with the KDX stem on the KX 97 lower triple. Was made by a local shop, knurling was needed, the guy also added special glue and a new Koyo bearing.
