After much debate and turmoil, I sold my 00 KDX220R. I purchased this with the hopes my Son's Baseball Coach would purchase, given he has an older 96 KTM250SX which is desperate need of repair and has he zero mechanical skills. I had a crack at it the KTM the best I could, but given it was so LOUD, I was limited on what I could do to repair it, I got the serious "stink eye" from the neighbors.
I replaced the bald tires, all the cables, lubed up the suspension linkage, reset the ignition timing, replaced the throttle slide, dialed in the jetting, took out 4 compression shims out of the forks, replaced the front forks with Mobil 1 ATF. It was a very nice bike and contemplated using as my back up bike. I just came to realize, I am creature of habit and "needed" engine braking for my technique of cornering. Been riding 4 strokes for 25 years, so it became a case of old dog new tricks thing.
When I see a positive post somewhere on an internet forum about either the KDX 200, or 220, I now get it. It is a very well made bike and I lot thought went in to it's design, it is much better bike than the KLX 300 which I had for 17 years. If I'd known then back in 97, what I know now, I definitely would have gotten the KDX.
I wanted to thank those that helped me get through some of my issues.
The person that bought my KDX 220R got a great bike and I hope he enjoys it.
Thanks Again !!!
Michael

diymirage,
You could be right, I would never rule it out.
I learned a lot about the bike and found it very easy to work on.
