Hi all! Just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and thank you for the great info on this site. I recently picked up an abused 1995 KDX200, and have just started tearing it down. It's kind of a learn as I go project as I have very limited wrenching experience. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the project and am sure I will rely heavily on info from this site! Cheers, sb

You really should buy the "cyclepedia" manual for your bike. Money we'll spent if you like doing your own work. It will save you the countless questions and waiting for answers. It has proved invaluable to me. Welcome to the forum! We are here to help and we love our KDX's

Thanks Fitterman! I'll look into the manual. The guy I bought it from actually had the service manual for it...though I don't think it was used much. I'll attempt to post a "before" picture (as of yesterday), a present picture (as of today) and then post significant progress until completion. I know I find inspiration in looking at what others have done to the KDX's, so I'll share my KDX journey from the beginning.

be sure to get a case saver for that bike
if the chain breaks it will do a whole lot more damage then a case saver would cost

interesting tail section on the bike
would be cool if you could refurbish that

Welcome to the forum and the KDX-addiction  Lots of good info here to help you wrench that baby into fighting trim again. Service manual and a torque wrench will help in that arena. These bikes are great to learn on (both riding and wrenching).

Thanks guys! A case saver is definitely on my parts list. Is there something unusual on this bike about the tail section of the frame I need to be aware of, diymirage? In looking at the OEM parts guide it appears to look alright. The angle of this picture makes it look a little tweaked, but it's actually pretty straight and level.

I have an estimate request in to powder coat the frame...I think this "little" project might get expensive

im thinking you might have a UFO rear fender on there
it looks like a combination between the stock fender with its bulky tail light and the maier MX style rear fender with no tail light

heres a good comparison between my bikes
the green one has the maier MX on it, the purple one the stock fender

looks like the lens on your fender is smaller then the one on mine

Oh good, I was getting a little nervous I missed some frame damage. Got a $230 quote today to powder coat frame, swingarm, and shock spring from a local company that does top notch work. Sounds reasonable to me!
