JBM from New Zealand

Post by JBM KDX »

Hi JBM from NZ way down under living way down south in surrounded by mountains in Queenstown (some of the worlds best trail riding)
my bike history
-04-525sx
-06-525exc
-03-450exc
-07-WR 450r
-97-KDX220
-97-KX250
-95-KDX200
-95-KX250
-93-KX125
-93-DR350
-89-DR200
-87-XR200
-87-XR100
-79-SL125
-Honda 90 trails

was hoping to buy a 4-5k KTM 250-300 exc but as I've got far to many debts to pay off before Xmas I decided to jump on a $800usd 94 KDX 200 H001(yes I think it's one of the very first H frames 12/94 dated)

great thing bout the KDX is the low costs for parts ....going spend 300-400 in total to bring it back to a good riding condition....

came with a Pro-circuit Pipe, alloy bars ,rebuilt rear suspension

Awesome. Do it, for sure! That's a great price for an H series. Parts and mods are still easy and cheap. Welcome to KDXRIDER!

I had a friend with a 02 kdx 200 that brought it to me for a tire change. I jokingly said " I'll give you $600 for it!"- and he accepted! I'd already bought an 01 yz250 to rebuild, but it was a disaster so I sold it. I hadn't ridden a bike (except occasionally) in 20 plus years. I spent a couple hundred bucks fixing small problems and rejetting, and I can say that the kdx 200 is the best bike I've ever, ever ridden. Not the fastest, not the most powerful, but the best. I am soooo glad i made that joke offer to buy it! I scoffed at a 200cc bike, but this thing pulls my 210 pounds like I'm a lightweight, and I've never had a situation I couldn't power out of. Just absolutely a wonderful bike. You will grow to love the kdx. I'm no longer looking for a 250cc mx bike to ride, so that should tell you something; and I've had plenty of chances to buy nice ones lately. Don't want em! I've got all the bike I'll ever need! Welcome to the forum, by the way jbm!

Thats a steal here in NZ bike prices are much higher guess being so far away and a small market a new KTM 300 14,000+NZD(11-12k USD)
for the price I paid for my KDX you could by early mid 90 MX bikes ....80's XR's rough DR350 etc your bike be easy 2k+ here....
Why I went for a KDX rather than others in price bracket is purely what you get for your money nothing else comes close ...6spd box 11lt tank so good range strong reliably power-plant lightweight... cheap parts
