Just picked up a KDX220 yesterday! Can't wait to tear into this thing and make sure all is safe before taking it out. Anything I should be on the lookout for when diving in?

You will want to replace the piston if it hasn't been done. The stock pistons tend to break and destroy everything around it.

Pick up a service manual, makes everything easier of course. Otherwise its the easy stuff, oil change, check filter/clean and oil, brake fluid level check. Then after the first ride you can address issues that come up like jetting or replacing worn parts you may find only from riding it. I like to make the first ride close to home and short...that way problems are less annoying when they pop up.
