1996 KDX200 - New Bike/Rider

At $1000 you did good as long as it runs and goes thru the gears. Anything else is just a bonus. But it all depends on the area.

Yes I bought the bike from aldergrove, did you look at it? His brother has/had a 200 for sale but the black box had crapped out on it when I got mine. I've had it out once since I got it and it goes like stink!

Haha that is hilarious! I looked at both bikes! He had a 96 a the one I bought and 97- one you bought. Didn't know about the other 200. I bought this one and regret it cause. It's not in as good of shape as it appeared and doesn't run great :(. I shoulda bought your 220! Haha anyways. Make sure you pull the bike apart. These guys did no maintenance on the one I bought....I also found the guy pretty....rude to deal with. I dunno what his problem was

That's to funny, I live in Richmond and ride out at triangle road in Richmond for a after work ride, and up around Squamish with a guy from work I want to ride vedder river area and up around hope I hear is quite good.
I pulled the bike apart when I got it home and the air filter was not good. I expect problems with old dirt bikes so I had low expectations as I was pulling it apart. :hmm:
I wanted a 220 from what I read on here and when that one came up and it had a pipe on it, I was sold!

1996 KDX200 - New Bike/Rider

Post by jjavaman »

I took mine out on Saturday, and it started to blubber under 1/2 throttle, ran clean up high. It was rideable, had to do a lot of throttle blipping to "clean it up" or it would stall? I thought maybe I hit the idle screw with my boot, was not that. When I finished riding and was loading up I noticed gas was coming out of the vents!
Take the carb apart today and the plunger in the float valve was stuck, do hope that was the problem.

Did you take a look at the jets? What jets are in there? I'm curious to know what yours are as we are in the same area...and what fuel mixture you run?

I took the carb apart and found the plunger on the float seat stuck. Seems ok now. It has a 135 main and a 42 pilot and I'm running 32-1. Oils cheap, and I'd rather spend a little more on oil and a little less on a rebuild? I'm heading up to the Chief in Squamish on Thursday!! Coild be the last nice day so a bud and myself are heading up!

That's a big main, I have a owners manual that I'll look at when I get home and it will tell me what your jet sizes are stock!

Hi, according to my manual it does not specify a jet size but under optional parts the main jets for your bike are , 155,158,162 and 165 and the slow jet is 42,45,50 and 52! The 220 which has a smaller carb main jets start at 140,142,148 and 150 while the slow jet is 38,40,45 and 48!
I would think you'd be going up 1 or 2 sizes on the main up at your cabin! Fun eh!
