Houston Sputter

Post by Oasiscraze »

Hello!

New member from Houston, TX. I picked up a VERY clean street legal 2005 kdx200 a few months ago to complement my DR650 and TS250 trail riding and commuting needs. I have since added the Desert pipe, removed snorkle, installed Boyesen reeds, rejetted ,and upped one tooth on the front sprocket in order to connect to trails easier.

I have been reading all over the net, and also seem to have the same issue as many a member on this site, and that would be the darned1/4 sputtering issue. Cruising at 1/8 -1/4 throttle makes the bike sputter like a weedeater in the half-choke position.

I've jetted the pilot down step by step and am at a 38 now and have ordered a 36; mind you that each step leaner seems to make the problem less aparent. WHAT IS THE DEFINITIVE ANSWER FOR GETTING RID OF THE COMMON 1/4 SPUTTER?

Welcome to the forum.

Is this happening on the dirt or street?

I'd try raising the clip on the needle.

Might try that next, but might not want to take a chance on leaning the
Mid-throttle too far and seizing

A 2t is going to sputter a bit when cruising at high speed low throttle. It's pretty normal. A bit annoying, yes, but that snap when you crack open the throttle makes it worth it. As much as I can't stand a 4t, that is part of what makes them better street bikes. A 2 stroke just really isn't made for cruising. Some are better than others, the KDX being one of the better ones. Try running 60 down the highway on any MX 250, and you'll see what I mean. :)

Hmmm, I suppose yer right,
But My '71 TS250 doesn't have this problem. It's a street legal 2 stroke as well.

Its hard to judge your sputter from my couch, but I would expect some. If its excessive, it would be a jetting issue.

I have a 2000 KDX 220 that is street legal here in Southeast Louisiana and I have the same sputtering issue. I've just learned to deal with it as mine is jetted a little rich.
