and guessing they are 20 plus years old, they could probably stand to be replaced anyway ;)
are they hard to install?

It lowers your final drive, exchanging top speed for grunt

The reeds are real simple to install as we'll
The reed cage is sandwiched in between the cylinder and the intake boot, six bolts in total
Once the reed cage is out there are six (i believe) little screws holding the reeds in
Pretty self explanatory.
if you're confident enough you can clean the carburetor replacing the reeds should be a breeze.

My new purple fork boots arrived today! I cant find any literature on how to put them on. Do i have to take apart the entire front fork just to put the boots on?

almost, you need to get the front end of the bike off of the ground and remove the front wheel
with that off be sure all brake and speedo cables are off the forks and now you can loosen the 4 pinch bolts that hold one fork in and pull it out
(the triples may stick at times so you may want to pry them open a bit)

you know, before you loosen the pinch bolts you could try to loosen the two "hose clamps" that hold the old boots on, with these off you may get lucky and be able to shimmie them down the fork without removing the forks from the bike (maybe shoot some window cleaner in there for lubrication)

if that's a no-go you will have to remove the forks from the triples

Hey welcome aboard bro. I got the same bike. The Barney Bike I guess. 1996 KDX200. It's my first dirt bike.
Sounds like you know what you are doing.
Looks like you need some duct tape on that saddle.
