Does anyone know if you are caught riding in LI NY but your bike is registered and insured can the police still confiscate it from you or will it be just a ticket.

I don't know about down in the city but in upstate they can take your bike if they feel like it. If you are riding on state land or trespassing they can take it. Registering your bike in NY means very, very little as to where you can ride. The registration fees that started in the early 90's was supposed to go into a fund for building a trail system throughout the state but it tends to disappear or get shifted to the general fund. The only state trail system I know of is in the Tug Hill area.
