Nope. Never.
For example, you stated somewhere you had 1999 KX125/KX250 forks. They have the same bottom clamp as 1998, but a different top clamp. The upper mounting area of the fork tube went from 52mm to 54mm in 1999 (again, this is from measuring 7.5 year ago). The bottom mounting area stayed the same. Both changed in 1998.

It depends on your riding style and aplication, for example Im 210 pounds and I use the factory conventional forks with .41kg eybach springs and the shim stack modification for trail riding and enduro. the front suspension works great and thats all I need now, only spend $70.00 including 7 wt. fork oil and 14mm hex tool. I think is the cheapest and best mod you can do to your factory forks, if you go for the kx conversion is going to cost betwen $500 to $700.

I did mine for less then 200, and that is including a KX front end AND ron black spacer and stem swap

And I will bet that they are rebuilt, revalved, travel shortened and properly sprung, too.
