KDXRIDER.NET

I have hung out at KXRIDERS.com for a few years now, gleaning information for my KX500. I found KDXRIDER.NET after the purchase of a kdx200 which was for a kx500 perimeter frame build I had planned. Changed my mind and opted to make the kdx200 rideworthy. Lots of useful info here and I thank you all for the site.

What year is your bike? What year and model did the new forks come from? Did you have to use a spacer?

I tapped out the seat nut to 8mm for a stronger hold. They only have a couple left don't know if they are going to have anymore.

The kdx is '96 ,,,forks from 90s kx500,,,forks bolted right on,,,no spacer.
I rebuilt the rear shock,,, replacing the kdx spring with the kx500 spring.


Purple tank eliminated (had a '96 xr600 so purple is way too 1990s for me).


W.E.R. steering stableizer.

Hi/Lo headlight, horn, rear brakelight, and mirror, should be street legal in Idaho. New handguards.

OK this what is done since I started. I took longer than planned,,,,but life has been busy.



WER steering stabilizer.


The Fisher seat is really the crowning glory on this bike. Rack from Happy-Trail.com mkers of dual sport racks and panniers.


I had two broken kickstands I saved,,, combined they made one working one. New Moose shift lever.


Hel brake line with an extra 4",,,works excellent. KX500 clutch cable worked better than KDX cable. New hand guards.


Carb from 99' CR125 boot from KX500. Boyesen Super Stock Reed. Rear shock spring from KX500


I rewound the stator the headlight is very bright. I didn't test watts but it is good must be over 90w. Hooked tail light up to the turn signal switch so I can turn it off. Nice 18 pin LED for tail.


This project was really to get a better learning bike under my step-son,,,he likes it a lot better than the KX500,,,for obvious reasons.

I want to thank the contributors to KDXRIDER.net. Here I found the most valuable information I needed to improve this neglected 96' KDX200. The rewind was the best mod,,,it really lights up good. I will be hanging around as I have another project for next winter.

What was gained from the carb? Just bigger?

Did you paint the head light ? with this texture it look like truck bed liner paint.

It is larger. I don't know if there was a gain but the former carb had a messed up choke believe it or not cracked bowel repaired with JBweld. So to my bone pile first before ebay or new. The larger inlet required changing the boot,,,no problem KX500 parts in the bone pile too. I don't know how it would compare cause I didn't really get to use the original. As you might notice it still need a pipe,,,, I missed a Bills on Ebay and can't quite pull the trigger for Pro-Circuit yet,,,by the way what do you all think of the Pro-Circuit vs say FMF Desert Gnarly. Anywhoo a pipe might really make the carb a beneficial add on.

Yes bed liner ,,, long story ,,, came off my KX500 had white plastic an wanted all black so the marauding Ninjas couldn't find me in the dark.

My impressions after riding the KDX for around 20-30 minutes (the longest time I've ridden one) are, it is a torque monster, very forgiving, pulled some big tall hills for me. The KX rear spring, and front forks will keep my lard butt out of the bottom end of the travel. I did back all the clickers to 2 clicks out of softest setting. It will make a great trail bike and I intend to hit some aggressive single track with it for a real test this summer, when I do I'll post a report.
