Greetings from Vietnam

Hi there from a South African living in Vietnam,

Just picked up a 1980s KDX200 from the only mechanic in Saigon that specializes in off-road bikes. Despite being 25 years old, the bike still packs scary levels of punch, and is perfect for bashing through the jungle or out on the beaches (yes, beach riding is legal here!). Unfortunately bikes bigger than 175cc are sort of in a grey area legally speaking, so much of whats available to buy is smuggled in from Cambodia (Honda Bajas are the most common). This means that riders of constantly under threat of having their bikes confiscated by the police to extort bribes... then again, $20 can buy you out of pretty much anything.

If you are interested in what Vietnam has in the way of riding, check out

In the city: (a lesson in defensive driving)

Out of the city: (dune / beach riding in Mui Ne)

Cheers,

Devan

Here are some vids from this weekends quarry ride. I'm the guy without proper equipiment (it's a nightmare finding gear here, thankfully my girlfriend was in Singapore for the weekend and grabbed me some boots)

A 7am "quick whip around the sandpit before work" goes awry. I spent the next hour cleaning the bike, myself and finally my shower. Needless to say, I was late to the office :).
