Going to pick up my first KDX200 tomorrow
Bike looks nice in pics it's a 95 KDX200 and I'm going to look at/buy it tomorrow. I'm a bigger guy 6'0" 240 so I'm hoping it's enough to ride wood trails with. I don't want to set any trails on fire with it but I do want to be able to get out of my own way with it. Any insight like things to look for tomorrow would be appreciated.

tires and rims , check to see if they are warped, compression, and cables clutch and throttle make sure they are not frayed , make sure the frame isnt rusted to bad or cracked , and sit on it and ride it to check the rear and front suspension good luck ! just a few things i would look at

Re: Going to pick up my first KDX200 tomorrow
don't forget to look for the obvious sings of neglect: a dry chain, wore out sprockets, a dry and dirty airfilter, missing chain guides
also, be cautious of bikes that are running when you come to look at them (I always feel the cylinder to see if the seller warmed it up) the seller might be hiding something if the bike is warmed up
im 6 foot even, 200 pounds without my gear and my 200 will move me just fine
if the bike your looking at is listed on craigslist post the link, some things the trained eye can spot a mile off

Re: Going to pick up my first KDX200 tomorrow
Looks tidy!
I'd just check the expensive things... Wheels as mentioned aren't cheap, check for play in the forks (or rattles when moving around). If the kickstarter is sloppy be aware that they're not cheap. Even bottom end rebuilds are cheaper than some other seemingly minor things.

Re: Going to pick up my first KDX200 tomorrow
looks well cared for, like buffy said, there is a nice aftermarket pipe on there
there is about every guard on there known to man, frame guards, brake guard, lower fork protectors, pipe guard
the side panels have been replaced and most likely the tank (I would expect it to be purple with a purple seat and fenderbag, but I wouldn't worry about that)
the only thing that looks off to me is the chain, it is too tight
but it looks like a well cared for bike, I would seriously consider it if I needed another one
just curious, what are they asking for it?

I would just about pull the trigger at $800 just to have a spare bike even though I don't really need it.

At $800 it could be missing fenders and it would have been gone here in a day lol. I'm currently looking for another bike and would have jumped all over this one.

Re: Going to pick up my first KDX200 tomorrow
at $800 if it runs I would get it
(well, I wouldn't cos I already have 2 but you get the point)
come to think of it, you probably drove out there and looked at it by now, did you get it ?

Re: Going to pick up my first KDX200 tomorrow
good job man, see you in the members bikes profile page
get yourself a set of forkboots, somewhere around here there is a partnumber for an aftermarket set that fits (someone will chime in)
toss in a fresh quart of oil and get her dirty
(where are you from anyway?)

Indiana. The bike really seems to run good. I hope the annoying ticking sound is just the KIPS

Re: Going to pick up my first KDX200 tomorrow
if it changes pitch when you pull the clutch then it is most likely the KIPS
they like to rattle to let you know they are still in there
we got a couple of members from Indiana, im sure some of them can point out a few riding spot near where you live (if you don't know any yet)
or, if you live close enough to the Michigan border you can come ride with me someday (still 3 hours north though)

Re: Going to pick up my first KDX200 tomorrow
That annoying rattle is the KIPS, I've owned 3 KDX's at the same time, and still have two, and I still question it sometimes haha.
Put some fresh motorbike gearbox oil in and overfill it slightly and it'll quieten it down a LOT.
