Re: KDX in National Enduro Series
Just got my forks back from Go Race Suspension and did my test ride yesterday... WOW!!!!
Stuff on my trail that I always hit that I really felt just disappeared and the rough high speed sections that used to upset the bike and throw me offline just vanished.
Still has that not too stiff feel that I like.
Also mounted my Jeff Fredette sourced Maier MX rear fender. It went in pretty dang easy. The four holes lined up perfectly and after bolting them in, I used my solder gun to push through holes for the two larger bolts that go on each side at the middle. Ol’girl looks pretty racy now.
We’re loaded up for a two event weekend and leave this morning for Stokesville. I just finished the KLX 250S I have been working on and it’s ready for chainsaw duty on the mountain bike trails today and Lead Moto duties for the Stokesville Strada Gravel Grinder tomorrow.
Then Saturday evening we pull chocks for Lynchburg, Virginia to race the Joe Lloyd Memorial Hare Scramble with the KDX.

Re: KDX in National Enduro Series
Employed the KDX for pre- mtb race trail clearing duty yesterday - she answered the call. Ice storm damage plus heavy vines wrapped in the limbs made a nasty tangled mess.
It was really bad with more than a dozen knarly hair balls to clear...
Mission Impossible???...
Mission Accomplished

Re: KDX in National Enduro Series
Joe Lloyd Memorial VCHSS 2021 in the books...
Perfect day after a perfect week punctuated by perfect course conditions... how we’ve looked forward to this!
My son raced his KTM 144SX to a 5th place in a strong field of 33 in the 200C class. I’m very proud of him, he and his buddy Mason have been on a mission since last season working out to prepare for this season. Mason took 5th in the 200B class after getting jammed up in the start. My best ever start got me into 5th, when two riders washed out in front of me and I dodged them into 4th up the first big hill. My goal was to stay off the ground and stay smooth. My fresh suspension tune really made that easy and I never crashed. The motocross course was super fun and I hit most of the jumps and hit the whoops with the hammer down. Was stoked to see several KDXs out there today in the morning race and another in the afternoon event.
My tenth place finish with 3 laps was a nice result for me - can’t believe I was only 1:58 out of third!

Yeah, I’m hoping that I can get in front of these old dudes next time and KEEP them BACK there! Did I mention that I saw 3 KDXs at the race besides mine?

Re: KDX in National Enduro Series
MoonStomper - Happy to see you out there racing the KDX, and glad to hear that you got your suspension setup! Pretty much the same thing happened to me - I ended up in 10th place in our 1.5 hour race, and then found out that 5th place finished 1 minute in front of me. My goal in these races is to just run a comfortable pace and not crash, but after seeing the results, wondered if I should have just pushed a little bit more. Oh well, it's just fun being out there!
Doakley - great to hear that you might be racing again!

Re: KDX in National Enduro Series
GATOROC - yeah that’s the same game I’m playing - I’m mounting a new front tire this week so hopefully that gives me enough confidence to push it just a little harder and stay upright. If I can get some ride time in this week on the new setup I think that will help - it’s definitely more rider than bike!!!! She wants to rip, I’ve just got to learn to hang on!!!!!!

Re: KDX in National Enduro Series
I think often, especially in the C and maybe even B classes, the objective should be to ride smooth, in control, with a minimum of errors. Time spend getting unstuck in the mud, picking the bike up, etc. costs a lot of time and even more energy. Ride smart at about 80-90% of your max and I think you’ll see yourself climbing up the results.
One key thing I found for me was to have the confidence to pick a line at a bottle neck or obstacle where riders are waiting and trust your skills to carry you through. That beats sitting around with the crowd debating what to do. Be smart, pick a line and go for it! Not saying just crash into the mud without looking first, just don’t take all day deciding.

Oh man Doak! You are the master. I am not bad when I don’t crash. Down 4 times in 3 laps yesterday had me thinking it’s time for a 450 w/ e-start. I felt like I was super-Mario. Pass or keep up great until I ate some turf to exhaust myself.

Re: KDX in National Enduro Series
I appreciate the advise and know I am improving on picking better lines.
I can tell for sure because just yesterday one of the faster guys encouraged me to, “GET THE F*** OUT OF THE WAY !!”

Moon. I have to agree. It’s all rider. I am not sure where this theory of light grip comes from. I am hanging on for dear life 90% of the time. In sand or mud your ass has to be hanging way back over the back tire and pin it as hard as you can or you are going down! You can’t do that with light grip or you’re off the back of the bike. Just pick up some more grip glue. I may end up using epoxy if those little buggers won’t learn to stay in place.

Pigeon toed, grip the hell out of the bike with your knees, legs, feet, will help you release some of the hand grip pressure. You'll still be hanging on for dear life though!Goat wrote: ↑02:05 pm Mar 22 2021 Moon. I have to agree. It’s all rider. I am not sure where this theory of light grip comes from.
