kdx 250 d series electric problem

Post by makis-rr »

hello
i have the titles bike.i only use it in mountain riding.
i have a problem with its electric
the kdx starts too easy,i am riding and after a time it suddenly stops and there is no voltage-electricity nowhere.nothing works , no spark no neutral light no lights generally, there is nothing.with the kickstarter i have no hope to start the bike.it starts absolutely normal after 10 minutes or if i find a downhill and put a gear in gearbox for about 5 seconds rolling.
does anyone know what happens?
is this from stator (i hope not) ?
thanks a lot

The first thing that comes to mind is a failing ignition coil. I've have quite a few older bikes where the coil, then cool and running at low RPM's, could keep up with demand just fine. However spark energy dropped off dramatically once revs climbed or once the coil picked up heat over time, resulting in misses, failed ignition and hard starting until the coil cooled back down.

That would be the first component I'd test/replace.

thanks a lot
i checked it already
i have absolutely no spark and it operates normally when i push it in a downhill and starts with gear in all the rpm's

Perhaps not the stator, but possibly old/failing magnets on the flywheel/rotor. I've heard stories of a few KDX's retired for this, because the rotor/flywheel was no longer available. Hopefully others will chime in.

check that the ground connections of the stator coil are clean and not rusted.
unplug and then reconnect all connectors on the bike in case there is rust between the connectors.

one piece of the problem was the key switch.it once operated normally and then not.i did not find nowhere a diagram so i destroy it.i can upload some photos to know in the future how the switch is from inside but i dont know how.
the switch has 5 cables
brown,white,grey,black-white and black-yellow
when it is on, black-white black-yellow and grey connected together
and brown white and again grey together
but when the grey connecting with brown and white there is a resistor of 100 ohm
