Nice...

Just a shame it doesn't come with a clear 11 litre fuel tank or lights !!

Nice. The YZ forums have been clamoring for this for about a decade now. Most those that claim to want it will probably now say "But I can buy a used YZ, WR trans kit, etc for cheaper" and sales will suck.

Good option for someone not wanting orange.

Yup, just checked in. A lot of complaining about no headlight, how you could build this from a 10 year old bike, and that the black wheels don't look right. Can't please anyone giving them exactly what they asked for.

So at least one of the Japanese manufacturers is half listening with one ear....

Give it a larger tank, lights, bark busters and the magic E button and keep the price under $8k and KTM will finally start looking in the rear view mirror...

Kawasaki??? Where are you???

Do we have pricing yet?

Current YZ250 is priced at $7290.

In this bike you'd also get the benefit of just a huge built-in base of aftermarket support, given how long Yamaha has been building this design and the number of units that have been sold.

yay, a WR yz250 !

no light ? WTF ? how hard would it be to put a lighting coil and a 50watt flamethrower on this bike ? c'mon yamaha, you're sooooo close !

man i hope it sells well, i'll be ready for one of them in 4-5 years. :D

If it follows the pattern of several earlier Yamaha trail bikes (including the previous 2-stroke WR250), they had lighting coils but didn't come equipped stock with lights.

I was gonna add, that it might be like KTM where the coil is there but the light is a Yamaha accessory. They have to make money on extra stuff somehow!

Missing a 6 speed and hydro clutch. Aluminum frame? No thanks. Dunlop at81 tires, wooohoooo! Not. no E-start? I don't mind, but I know some people that won't ride without it.

Pretty sure this is just a re-buffed yz250, with some mods to make it less terrible in the woods than a regular yz250.

Maybe I'll get a chance to ride one, which could change my mind. After owning a trail sorted 04 yz250 for years, I doubt it.

Absolutely! That E start is really important....... If you ride a 4 stroke.

You say that like it's a bad thing. YZ250s kick ass! But what most of us want is some mods to make them less terrible in the woods than a regular YZ250.

I never understood why they left in the first place. Have laws become less restrictive lately?

I'm in SW washington. Our trails are tight, with great dirt(summer) or mud(winter, spring and late fall). Top end power with the gearing it has is utterly useless in tight trails. So is the low end... It would take cylinder work and tranny work to make it useable in woods. Which is what Yamaha did, kudos. If you happen to ride in places that have room to crack 3-5th gear open for fun, my man, a yz250 is for you.

In no way, shape, or form was I blemishing the YZ250 namesake. Reliable as hell, MAD frickin top end, great bike. It's just that it's a MX bike, from the ground up.

This yz250x, I'm sure is worlds better for trail riding....but it still falls a bit short of the competition at that price point. If I came off like I was bashing my apology. Maybe this bike is a feeler for the market need, but it just seems to me like they stopped quite a bit short of the competition, which disappoints me. Maybe they'll sell some because they're blue, not orange.

I AM happy to see a 2 stroke back in the mix for sure! Kawi should bring a kdx 2 stroke back, I'm running out of left side kips valves for my E series.

concerning the gripe that it don't have lights;
that enduro21 site said it was made for Hare Scrambles and GNCC racing so maybe neither of those type events require lights.

and who rides in the woods at night?

So, for those of you that sound upset, would you run down to the dealer if it had your wish list? :naughty:  :hmm:

MSRP is $7,390.
