I found a 79 KDX 400 in my neck of the woods on craigslist for $700. This is the second cool bike I found in my area. It runs and is all there. The guy put in the ad that he bought it with the intention to restore it, but never got around to it and that it has been sitting, but after a carb cleaning it fires 1st kick. I'm thinking of going to look at it as I could use another dirt bike to ride as I fix my 200. Have any of you ridden one of these monsters? Is it worth $700? It's not in bad shape

You are at a bar, asking if anyone thinks you should buy a drink.

FOR ME, if it is in decent shape, cranks and runs, then for $700, I would buy it instantly with no haggling or any BS to prevent a sale.

If you need any reasons / excuses to buy yet another bike, I am the author of a two volume, unabridged set of excuses / reasons I can share.

If it stops and goes then it's worth more than that. Jason nailed it on the head. You better hope nobody else here's about it before you get there. I promise it won't last long for that price!

Well you guys were right ... I sent the guy an email about the bike last night when I discovered it on CL and today I see that the ad has been removed. It probably sold already and the guy forgot to remove the ad. Its ok, I really need another motorcycle like I need a hole in my head... I already have 7 and am running out of space. Its funny how easy it is to make excuses to not buy a motorcycle once it gone, but when its available the excuses I'm coming up with are what to tell the wife when its in the garage.

Oh well. Another "you snooze, you lose" episode. Those are sometimes tough to endure.

It would have been nice of you to store a bike of a friend in your garage, as you slowly work on it over time for him.

Well, just to answer your original question, I have ridden and raced one. It is a freaking monster alright! Lots of fun but a little ......explosive is a good word!

A friend just told me about one he has,not thinking of buying it but he was tossing it around. Called him yesterday and asked,he said 400,I said how about 300,he said ok 300 without the new tires,ok. It is all original down to the seat cover and silencer and shows 181 on a working odometer, will post pics later.
