Need '86-'89 KDX200 stator coil resistance specs

Post by travisb »

Hello,

I am looking for the stator coil resistance specs for the 86-89 KDX200.

(Edit) Specifically, I want to know the differences in coil resistance specs between stator PN 21003-1077 ('83-85) and stator PN 21003-1178 ('86-'89). I have the 21003-1077 specs from my Clymers manual.

(Edit2) it turns out that my Clymers manual covers '83-'88 model years. The stator resistance specs have values for '83-'86 and '87-on as separate table entries. According to microfiche at Kawasaki.com, stator 21003-1178 looks like it has just one source coil (plus a lighting coil) whereas my '84 has two source coils (plus a lighting coil). There is only one resistance spec in the manual for '87-'88, which is 54 ohms, and the microfiche shows only three wires leaving the stator, rather than four wires on the '83-'85 models. The '86 and on presumably have changed from the dual (fast, slow) coil to single coil design. ''90 and later use a different stator than these two earlier generations.

It does not make sense that rmstator could sell one product (i.e., two source coils) that fit both stators/CDI designs, unless the user is expected to discard one coil for the '86 and later bikes. Neither coil as spec'd from the vendor (170, 24) or as measured (195, 34) would provide 54 ohms. Maybe the Clymers manual is somehow not accurate.

Thank you,
Ben

I noticed that rickystator sells what appear to be the same coils I bought from eBay. I sent an email asking for the coil resistance values and included my Clymer manual values. The reply was:
"Manual is wrong
Small coil 25 ohms
Big 175"

So, according to this, the large eBay stator coil is in spec at 195 ohms, but the small coil is out of spec at 34 ohms.

Does anyone have a factory Kawasaki (not Clymer) service manual for the 1983-1985 KDX200? I'm curious what that manual has for stator coil and HT coil resistance values.

Thank you for any help,
Ben

Thank you very much for the post. I see 104 ohms for the C1's large coil. Maybe that's why Clymers listed 104 ohms for my '84's large coil, but I'm learning mine should be 170 ohms.
