Help with 88 kdx200 stator/flywheel

Post by Steelheadguy »

Let this thread serve as my introduction. Im from southern oregon. This is my first dirt bike but not my first engine or motorcycle.
 I bought this bike with no spark. Ive tested everything and read a lot on here, so now I believe it is the common bad stator.

The magnets look to have been epoxied back in and some are chipped at the corners. Can this be the problem? My friend said even though they look rough, as long as theyre there it should work. Is that right?

The stator doesnt look bad. Is there a way to test it?

Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Yeah you can check the resistance on the stator coil with an ohm meter. Not sure what the value should be on your bike. A service manual would give you that info. Welcome to KDXRIDER!

If you have to order a new stator, order from rectifierregulator.com. I ordered a stator for my kdx 175 from there and highly recommend them. It was only around $50 and arived in a few days. Ive probably put 10-15 hours on the bike, and still had strong spark (right before the topend grenade) I am not a spokes person for them, just a guy recommending a good company.

Here are your ohm readings
Coil primary - .22
Coil secondary - 7.2k
Stator Black to blue - 104
Black to white/red - 54.5
Blue to white/red - 142
black to yellow - .53

All good within plus or minus 20%

Not to be argumentative but I take the flywheel off my 1986 kdx200 with the other style flywheel remover all the time. Works great. I I did have to rig a flywheel holder out of a board with some screws so yes you do have to hold the flywheel with something.

I just realized I'm an idiot. I completely forgot I went to an H-series flywheel I modified the stator and changed flywheels a-LA fredette.
When I got my bike the flywheel was already gone. I didn't have to remove it at all. I went straight to the permanent fix with the late model flywheel.
Everything I said to steelheadguy is 100% not applicable and RM stator is lying when they say that puller works on pre-E series because it absolutely will not work.
You are right. I am wrong. Please disregard everything I ever say past, present, and future.
I'm going to go drag me outside and kick my ass.
I'm very sorry.

Go to autozone and get a 3 arm steering wheel puller. Thats what i use. Dont remember if i had to get bolts at home depot or not to thread into the flywheel. puller might have the correct thread.

KICK HIS ASS, SEABASS! :partyman:

No problem. I thought you had figured out a way to use it.

I have pulled them before with a 3 arm steering wheel puller and some 6 mm bolts I bought at Lowe's.

I dont see a blue wire. I have three wires coming off the stator. Yellow, red/white, and black.
