1985 hub work for 1987 rear hub?

Post by Bonno »

Looking at my manual, the hubs are the same 83-85 and 86-88 are the same. The differences i can tell by the manual is the spacer but if i have the spacer for the right year and the bearings and all that are for the same year, will a 85 rear hub work on a 87. The question gets down to axle size and if the drum brakes will fit inside the hub and the width is right.

1985 hub work for 1987 rear hub?

Post by Bonno »

I ended up buying on eBay that 1985 rear hub. Paid 35$. I also bought a axle shaft with the wheel spacer and stuff on it for 15$. So as long as the overal width is right and the brakes fit inside the hub the same I should be fine. Worst case I see is the brakes and might have to buy a 85 brake unit.

Ggggrrrr. Ya I messed up this time. I miss read the eBay ad. It was a hub for a 85. It was for drum brakes which is what my rear is but also through me off. It was for the front not rear. My kdx has disc on front. Wasted 50$. Guess it happens sometimes. Anyone need one, it's in really good shape!

1985 hub work for 1987 rear hub?

Post by KDX Geoff »

I've got '83-'85 and '86-'88 200's in the shed so I'll measure them up but I'm confident they'll swap straight over. I'm also reconditioning a '83 250 rear wheel to put in my '83 200 for the bigger brake.

That's happening today so I'll update this post later.

Update

The '87 came in at 209mm inside swingarm at the wheel and 203mm for the '83.
I wonder if the spacer or brake plate make up the 6mm...
