'86-87 and '88 jetting

Post by targetman »

So I currently have an '86 with the Mikuni card. I will will soon have the Keihin carb from an '88 also. I have read several different recommendations for jetting and they are all over the place. I realize that it's going to be trail and error, but it would be nice to narrow the field. I have a fresh top end rebuild, Boyesen 607's, and an FMF silencer. I'm going to run the Minkuni for awhile and then make the changeover to the Keihin when all parts are in. I am seeking starting points for both carbs. Thanks.

Have you looked on the frpoffroad.com KDXposed section? He might show the 1987 recommended jetting.

In any case, start rich and work your way from pilot on up. No air screw on the stock 1986 and 1987 KDX200 carbs, so one less thing to worry about.

The stock needle is OEM only on 1986 and 1987. I think the 1988 needle is a Keihin equivalent.
