1980 KDX175 Aftermarket Silencer
Wondering if any one has adapted a later model silencer to fit an early kdx 175, repacked the stock one and is still to loud for me. Noticed DG still makes silencers for the 1984 200, but, that is all I have seen in my searches.

If you call DG and give them the measurements of your silencer they are really good about finding one in their stock that will fit, even if it is not specifically listed for that model. I've had them do that for vintage bikes that they certainly wouldn't have had a model-specific one for (1970 AJS Stormer as example).skippypinecone wrote: Noticed DG still makes silencers for the 1984 200, but, that is all I have seen in my searches.
They're nice quality product, too.
All that said, I am not certain if any aftermarket would be quieter than a recently-repacked stock one.

Thanks for the info, my main goal is trying to quiet it down a bit so I guess I will just leave it stock.

You can repack the sielncer with good results. I did mine 2 years ago. Copied is my post from ThumperTalk with an updated link to the drawing.

A litter more detail. You pull the arrestor assembly out (item 12) by taking out the bolt (11) that holds it in place. Once out, you break (by twistng or grind them off) the spot welds (on the engine side of the arrestor) that hold the inner tube and packing in the arrestor. The perforated inner tube is also spot wleded to the ID of the arrestor at the exhoust outlet end. You can't see these, but trust me, they are there! They are two tiny little welds, that should snap pretty easily after 30 years of use . I twisted back and forth a few time till it gave way. I think the perforated tube may have given away just above the welds, but no worries. Then you can pull the perforated inner tube out and repack the grimy, slimy, work out gunk. Some new moose fiberglass did wonders fr the sound! It stays original too. I like the DG cans, but they look a little goofy on a vintage 175... just my thoughts though!

Did you ever get an aftermarket silencer for your KDX 175? I have an 82' KDX 175 and am thinking of going with either the FMF universal or the Supertrapp universal. Does anyone have any experience with running these on older bikes?

I also am trying to silence my 175. But I have the A3, anyone know how to repack it? If its even possible at all.
