Handelbars

Post by towpro »

Are the handle bars on my 91 kdx a special bend? Mine came bent. I threw a set I had left over from a husky I had but there not right. With the strange angled kdx mount l can't turn them forward enough as they hit in the bolts that clamp them down.

I hear ya. I've been thinking about picking up an H series upper triple to fix that handlebar angle thing. I'm not sure if the offset is the same though.

I wonder if they are just "cr high bend"? but why would they use CR (as in Honda) bars on a Kawasaki?

Look on the Renthal site for some measurements of typical bars. Maybe it will help you figure out what is going on.

From the measurements I've seen in the past, the KX bend is higher the the CR bend.

so I should be looking for a KX bend?

anyway, I had to pull them off again. I have been slowly getting this bike back together. Its basically ready but I been test riding it around the yard and it just don't turn. Im thinking "how the hell could all those guys I know ride these things so fast in the past?"
I raised the forks in triple clamps and it seemed to get worse.

WTH. so Instead of putting it on my table I just lifted the bike on my jack, wow, front steering bearings are rusted so tight I can't even turn it lock to lock.
pulled bearings out yesterday. new ones will be here Thursday.

I did check the suspension bearings and yes my brother had done them before. but nobody has pulled the steering stem since 1991

Even the KX bend wont rotate forward without hitting the clamp bolts. Like was mentioned, you can replace the upper triple with one from a '95-'06 and that will get rid of the funky angled bar mounts. You can find them on eBay cheap. This is just an example, I got mine for $35.00 shipped.
