E series performance at idle

Post by Friedom »

Hey all, got my 92 rebuilt, broken in, running unbelievably strong. It'll pull power wheelies in the first 3 gears if you get on it in the middle of the gear.
At low rpm though, it's as exciting as a unicycle with a flat tire. Is this just the way they are? Am I missing something?

What happened when you changed the air screw?

This is the best I've be able to get it with air screw adjustments. I'm at 1/2 turn out. I suppose my PJ might be too large.

Temp, altitude, humidity, changes from stock, current jetting, including needle number?

Nope, too small. If you run the jetting process, less than 1 turn out on the AS means you need a bigger PJ not smaller. Likely you're starving the motor down low, but once you open the throttle the MJ kicks in and helps out.

Right. I had it backwards, I'm used to tuning fuel screws instead of air screws. I'll pop a larger one in and see what happens. Also ordered some needless to try different profiles.

I'll be getting the next size up PJ today hopefully. Been running a 42. I sure hope it wakes up the bottom end. Mid-top is amazing right now. I lofted the front end in 6th yesterday on a small road hump. This thing is a blast in the power band!

Genuine Mikuni 45 PJ is in. Air screw is around 2 turns out. Starts better, idles better. Still kind of anemic at first, but better. Got two new needless in the mail restart, bgk and cgk? Haven't tried them yet, but my current 1173 is corroded so something is likely to improve.
