KXDX 250 Hybrid?

Post by nearma12 »

I am considering making a hybrid by putting my '91 KDX250 motor into a KX250 frame. The KDX250 motor should have the exact same dimensions as the 88-89 KX250 motor. I think the only real differences between the 2 are internal. So, I should be able to swap my motor into an '89 KX250 by simply bolting it in. The main reason that I want to do this is to reduce the overall weight of my bike. Does anyone know what the advertised weight of an 88-89 KX250 is? Obviously the suspension is better than the KDX, but I don't want to spend too much money just to get better forks and shock. Everything that I've seen says the dry-weight of the '91 KDX250 is 237 lbs. It would be nice to try to fit it into a more modern frame, but I don't know how easy that would be. Anyone have any idea of how much weight I can save by doing the swap? I just can't talk myself into doing it unless there is going to be a significant difference.
