04 KX 125/03 KDX 220

Post by matteichstadt »

Hi there,
Thought I would share my project with you guys. It is a 2003 KDX 220 in a 2004 KX125. The only modifications done to the motor are a wiseco piston, and a PC platinum 2 pipe. The new pipe did wonders, the bike runs even better and faster than before. Everything fit into the frame pretty easily. It's got new plastics, graphics, linkage and wheel bearings, and new wheels and tires. I used the KX airbox, and got a ring machined and fitted to the carb to match up to the bigger boot of the KX. I used a combination of the KDX and KX rad hoses to get everything connected. If I remember correctly I used the KX clutch cable and the KDX throttle cable. It is amazing to ride, feels very light and nimble. The next project is getting the suspenion revalved. :boogie:

Very nice indeed.

Any idea if an '00 KDX 200 motor will work just as easily in a '98 KX 250 roller?

?

Man that looks great. Very nicely done. Been looking for an '04 locally for some time to do the same treatment. BTW the front brake line actually goes to the inside of the fork not the outside.

That picture was taken in the Chilliwack river valley. I don't know about the 200 into the kx 250, I would imagine it would be possible, not sure on the extent of modifications required though. Oops, that makes sense with the front brake line.

Looks great mate.

Anyone seen any how-to's making a KDX motor fit into an aluminum framed KX-F? I believe they went AF in '06.
Cheers.

still working on my 04 hybrid. Welding in new motor mount. Fyi my new swing arm bushings are ground down to 46mm for the sprocket side. and 45 mm on the right side. This will keep the front sprocket in the same alignment as the stock 125 had. My final cut for the swing arm was 50mm. Image

The stock KDX head stay will work but you need to oval out the one of the holes. Your spacers need to be 20.2mm on the lower one and the top ones need to be 24.5mm. You will need to use 70mm long bolts. Image

Great info.....keep it coming. Just bought an '04 KX myself. I'm in the planning and learning stages of the hybrid now. Can't wait to start turning wreaches on it.

Very nice.

You guys with metal working skills make it look so easy. Having said that it's still possible for us hobbyists.

Still haven't started on the hybrid, but I'm close. That being said, I'm trying to think through the wiring fitment. I've seen it wrapped and stored in the airbox area, and others have cut and soldered. What did you guys come up with? I know it's an old thread, just hoping to learn a little more and have a plan before I tear into it. Thanks in advance.

To make the air box align better use the boot off the KX250. I mounted the CDI on the head stay bracket.

When I did mine (01 220 motor/01 KX125 frame) I used the KDX wiring in stock form. Mounted the VR to the subframe and the CDI just inside the airbox Image
