update:
frame powder coated silver with metallic flacks

I started "polishing" the swingarm (had a lot of time waiting on parts) then I cleared coated it to keep it shinny. It'll scratch very fast and easily but hell it's a dirt bike. I save a bit of cash that way, turned out alright. Dunno how long it'll last but good enough for now.

Then I went to town on the painting (someone did the same on this forum and gave me the idea to do the same...I hate him for that, what a PITA!
But I guess it turned out ok, I did it mainly again cuz I had time and because I want to see if it'll "seal" the metal and make it easier to clean that red mud crap we have around here, we'll see.

pipe and silencer mod:
sent my FMF pipe to pipe repair cuz it was very tweaked. Did an awesome job, even removed the dent on the expansion chamber.
It doesn't line up as good as the pro-circuit but I wanted to keep my low end so I stuck to the FMF.
Got a spare stock pipe (thanks to blimpman :supz: ), cut the header and had it welded to the existing one.

I still had to tweak it to fit nicely and clear, frame, rads and all. I had to extend the mount to reach the pipe.

The worse was the silencer, I could not find any 99-02 kx 250 that didn't cost an arm and a leg, so I had to have one custom made...what a bad bad idea, let's just say that it didn't cost me a arm and a leg but I am currently on life support with no kidney :mrgreen: and I could have bought a welder.

I had to make it a lot shorter (t'was damaged anyway) to make it fit so that it won't hit the swing-arm if I bottom out on jumps (not planning on that but you never know) and I wanted to keep it somewhat forest approved.

i just realized my 05 head has an "E2" marking on top while my 01 has "E3" (or vice versa can't recall I'll have to check tonight).
What are they? The reason I asked is because I use my 05 RB modded head on my 01 cylinder that i had re-plated.
Is this going to be an issue?

air box mod:
some trimming was required. I had to get a second air box because I trimmed a little too much on the 1st one. It could have worked but would have look funky.
Here you can see at the bottom where I trimmed too much.

You just need to trim enough for the KDX boot to fit snuggly inside the box.
I made a back plate out of steel, I started with aluminum but it was too thin and flimsy, I'm pretty sure it would have bent/broke after awhile.
That plate goes on the outside of the box and can replace the stock KDX aluminum ring, I kept mine just cuz I painted it green and wanted to use it

I reused 3 of the KX existing hole (used to secure the air filter on the boot) to secure the plate, then sealed it in place with silicone.

I drilled 2 holes in the airbox for the filter holder, make sure they are big enough for the plastic part of the holder to fit inside and make tight good seal against the boot. that's also why I added that aluminum piece as backing on top and bottom (not shown on pic). This needs to be as flat as possible to get the rubber boot tight against the filter holder.

You basically want the boot sandwiched between the air filter holder, and the air box. hard to explain, I should have taken pics there. If you look at how the KDX air box, boot, filter holder goes you'll see what I mean.
I sealed the boot and holder with silicone to be safe (on the outside only, didn't want to risk any silicone getting loose and screwing up the engine)

msr i believe. much nicer than the stock made out of spaghetti metal, I would bend it every time I'd shift a little too hard (especially down shifting when hanging on for dear life) .

cool, let me know how it holds up after a few rides. I tried one on my kid's bike but it didn't last a practice. Then I heard others say they were great. Maybe they have different types or something.

I've used it for a while now and seems to hold pretty well. Dunno if it'll resist a spill though, I think they may be cast aluminum...

You need to cut your vent lines on an angle.Have you ridden long with that shift lever? I tried using a KX one and the chain chewed it up.
