03-05 kx125's seem to be the most straightforward. I opted for an 05 when I did mine for that exact reason. It wasn't too difficult at all.

Ok thanks a lot
Did you have to extend the exhaust?
And how straight forward was the engine to mount?

Check the Hybrids forum, all the answers are there. Many of us have gone that route and documented it.

Re: kdx 220 2002 mx frame conversion??
very true, lots of info. I read through a bunch of build threads before starting. After reading through a bunch, you will get a real good idea of what needs done and the best ways to go about it.
Without going into too much detail, I didn't have to extend the exhaust anywhere. My exhaust mods were tweaking the pipe outlet away from the air box, running a 05 KX250 silencer, and making a bracket to mount the silencer closer towards the front of the bike (so it could fully engage into the pipe).
For the motor, once you read how others have done it, you will decide the way you want to go about it. It really isn't too bad.
I'd say the airbox and carb fitment was biggest pain to me.
