It appears to me that there are three distinct tapers on the needles. Not nearly the steep tapers as on the NOZX needles that use to come with the KTM but less steep tapers.

Straight diameter on the red is 2.70mm using my digital calipers. Finishing diameter on the end is 1.92mm.

NOTE - It just suprized me when I read a thread a few months ago mentioning the KDX JD needles. In early 2005 I contacted JD and asked which of his needles may work in the KDX 200 (I had tried the ones I had for the KTM 380 and a Yamaha JD needle a neighbor had. They were no go - very weak down low and too rich on the upper end). JD replied he did not have any and there did not appear to be much interest. He must have gotten a number of calls or maybe monitored this board and saw all the input about the RBD'd carbs and figured maybe there IS a market.

Thanks Charlie... I didn't know when he came out with these since most were just working off of his spreadsheet to gauge what needle to use.

Unfortunately, not much was available that was close to the ideal curve. JD's needles are kind of expensive but they are $10 cheaper than his other kits.

I think the DEK and CEK are great needles for the RB'd carbs but I always wanted to see what JD had to offer. Now I get to see....

I said (something like) someday I'll have to check them out...maybe...'

Right after I get that hot-rod lighting coil sorted out, I'm sure.

I'll give 'em a shot after you try 'em, don't like 'em..and send them to me for free.

Yeah.....that sounds good.

My boy is still running the JD needle in his KDX - Just makes good solid low to upper mid range goooo power!! He is loving it.

I dropped the main to a 152 and he was in a three man (one person on the route at a time) 5 hour enduro race last Saturday - no compliants due to power or handling issues. Finished 4th out of 12 teams. There were three KDX riders out of 36 riders in the main.

JD Blue needle clip 3 with a 42 pilot. Yep 200 with the RB Airstryker carb mod and DF3 reed block with PC2 pipe and RB's head. (13/50 gearing I think)

So was there any verdict on the jds? Lots of excitement, lots of testing, then a telling silence?

You jd testers, what jets are in ypur carby today?

I'm on record in one of these threads stating it is the best jetting that I have experience for the KDX 200 and recommended that everyone should try it. Even something along the lines of after an aftermarket pipe and RBD head the JD jetting should be next because it was better than V-force reeds; or something along those lines.

Ended up going from the blue needle to the red needle - clip 3, MJ 150-152, PJ 42. 5000' elevation 70-95 F. Finally a nice tractable low-end with grunt that does not load-up and a very meaty mid-range combined with a strong top-end. -Charley

RB'd Head, RBD AirStryker carb, PC2 pipe, V-force 3 reeds, JD jetting.

Thanks Charley. Sounds like you've got the formula. Is the Airstryker mod the same RB mod everyone talks about? Or is it different?

Thanks again. Sure great to have somebody figure out all this stuff before I got here.

RBD also sells and modifies the airstryker carb with his plate. I bought the new airstryker carb from RBD modified. Then sold the old one on e-bay.-
