RB Head / KDX200 / Stock pipe. Results..

Post by ebeck »

Long story, here is the cliff Notes version.... I did the RB head mod with the stock pipe to see the effect of that alone.

Bottom line, every KDX should do this. The point and squirt that the KDX motor really lacks is now there. Stronger, faster reving, stays strong longer. Hit a berm trist the throttle and the tire lights up instantly. Not quite like a full on MX'er mind you but a hell of a lot closer thatn stock, which was laggy in that scenario.

Yep, it works everywhere in the powerband. I was suprised it did so much frankly. For $45, send your head off even with a stock pipe. Best $45 spent on the bike. Seriously.

The motor matches the character of the KX chasis now.

Did you have Ron shape the head for pump gas or race gas? I did the race gas version. I could mix down to 50/50 c-12 and pump premium with no pinging. It was the hot ticket, I'll tell you what! Even kicking the bike over took much more effort.

Thanks for the post! I had no idea the head mod made so much difference. Now I think I'll send in the head when I do the carb mod.

I had the head done for premium gas. Yeah it is really an incredible mod. It idles like a KTM 250SX now.

The PC pipe is on the way but I need to modify it so it will be awhile before it is on. Then the carb.

How does a 250SX idle?

Kinda rough, kinda lopey like a muscle car. Almost uneven sounding like it is dyning and recovering.

That happened when I switched to the head modded for race gas, runs a little rougher at idle . . . revs sweetly and quickly though, even more so than the first of Ron's heads I ran which was modded for pump gas. That's the most impressive thing I found with the race-gas version over the pump-gas version: quicker to rev and extended revs. Very snappy!

I run 50:1 AMSoil Dominator in my stocker. If I got the head and carb mod would I need to mix 40:1 or 32:1?

Nope. You tell Ron you want your head set up for pump gas, then do what you did before.

I'm not familiar with Torco, but I did find some forum discussion comparing torco with VP.

http://www.amsnow.com/SNO/CS/forums/701 ... tPost.aspx

I can't vouch for what is said or who says what on this (amsnow) forum; more to the point, I'm unfamiliar with race fuels. Email Ron Black and ask him.

Moody, I'd say yes. Never seen typical head work require more than 110.

Good post on Torco vs VP Jeb/ thanks Fuzzy
I was running 93pump plus tolune but have tried
the torco 110 and it seems to run a tad leaner than the 93
I haven't had any head mod done yet but ill have it done
for race fuel if the torco is ok.
I can get the torco for 5.50 per gallon but the VP is 50.00
for 5 gallons.
I didn't want to shell out a 50 every time I need fuel.

I ran Torco additive in my Turbo cars at boost levels that would knock holes in my pistons. I absolutly works is you are looking for 100 octane levels from regular unleaded. of course it causes cancer. The additive was banned in the US in 1975 but is still used i South africa and Canada so Conspiricy theories abound about that....

It is the same additive that is in Suoco 104 race fuel. It turns your plug orange btw, it is called Methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl. (MMT)

The Torco 110 that I run is not an additive.
It is straight fuel at about 5.50 a gallon and it
is sold at a Sunoco station.

yeah I know but for those who can not get race fuel the additive works quite well. You can mail order it from Sublime Speed. I used to buy it by the case.

I am just passig on info, not arguing or anything.

Different league then Tolulene and xylene.

32 oz or one can to 10 gallons for 110 octane.

A can is $12 so that works out to $1 more per gallon than 91 unleaded for race fuel. Plus you can carry it with you, no need to make a special trip for race fuel. You cna also mix up a gallon at a time. Way more covienent.

Google for MMT for details.
