RB Modded Air striker & Race Gas Head mod

Post by TWMOODY »

I have seen other posts regarding RB Air striker and race gas head mod
but not much on comparisons to other mods.
I currently have the RB PWK carb mod/VF3 reed/FMF rev/TC2
and a stock head.
Would having the RB air striker and race gas head mod produce
the same or simular improvement as a stock pipe to a rev pipe
or just get the race gas head mod and forget the air striker?
Do you lose any top end with the air striker?

The more mods the merrier I allways say. If you have the RB modded carb, it is similar to the air stryker. the air stryker is just a bit better and more forgivving in the jetting department than the RB mod carb. Go for the head first. you will gain some power everywhere. Higher compression makes more horsepower. No, you will not loose any top end wityh the air stryker. I have the modded head for pump gas(premium) and love it on my 2002 and my 2005. As we speak, Ron is doing two more pump gas heads for me. one for my 03 and one for my brothers 98. I have not tried the race gas head yet. Not many places that have it around where i live. good luck

One of the things I do NOT like about the Air Striker carb is that the vent hoses are always in the way. I rerouted them but with the stock carb you could just loosen the inlet and outlet clamps, rotate the carb, remove the throttle valve to make a needle change, rotate the carb the opposite way to make PJ/MJ changes. All jets and needles could be easily addressed and changed within 5 minutes.

The vent hoses add at least an additional 5 minutes to making the same changes. That is really my only bitch with the AS carb. I think performance between the RB modified stock carb and the RB modified AS is negilible but I'm running 5-9K foot elevation.

P.S. Lower elevation where the air is denser may show an appreciable gain with the AS

Yup, all those hoses suck but they look cool! Ron jetted my carb right on the money straight out of the box. I Might need to go 1 size bigger for winter or if I do some major elevation change. But that is what the airstryker is all about. Being less sensitive to weather/ air density and elevation changes.
