Ok, I have been playing with my 96 200 lately trying to sweeten the power to how I want it, and here are the results. Initailly I rebuilt the bike about 70 hours ago (things are still very tight), then a few weeks ago I decided to have the RB head done. I disassembled things and sent it off. When I put it back on, I felt a little difference- not much, but some. I added a KIPS resonator spacer, about .250 thick.. WOW- way better. Made a few torqure rings at work, so I threw one in too; It did something, not sure what though- better? worse? It needs more testing. I was not liking the PUNCH of the Rev Gnarly and the KIPS opening, I want a smoother linear power. Then I adjusted how the KIPS comes on by playing with the bolt-washers-spring and ball piece on the Kips (on the left side in front of the KIPS cover). I ended up ADDING a copper washer that was about half as thick as the stock two. (valves open sooner) Things feel sooooo much better. Better power everywhere, you really cannot feel when the powervalves open, you can only hear the change in pitch on the pipe. The power is very linear. Feels more like a hopped up 250f, just way lighter and flickable. Love it! will hit some tight single track this weekend, and see how I like it in more "real world" applications..

It actually was on the bike when I got it, but removed it when i rebuilt the top end. Its a pretty crude hunk or aluminium that looks as though it has been fashioned with a variedty of rocks, chisels, hammers, and files. (obviously was a DIY project). If I get a chance I could possibly make a few at work. Maybe write a little cnc job, or just make them manually. I'm a machinist for an areo-space shop, so I'm a little spoiled when it comes to making my own stuff :boogie:

Sorry for the maybe silly question, but what are torque rings?

I've heard good and bad things about torque spacers on the resonator chamber, the bad is only that they haven't noticed an improvement, so I can't see a reason not to try it.

A Torque Ring is simply a very thick washer that goes between your pipe and the cylinder. It basically moves the volume of the pipe further away from the cylinder, and giving the engine more low-end torque. Its the same prinicipal as the Resonator Spacer; except the resonator spacer gets cut-off when the KIPS open, but the Torque Ring takes a few hundred RPM from the top speed. Its funny how these items work for some bikes, and on others they seem to do nothing. Google Jeff Freddette and FRP. His site has more info. Also i think there is a link from the home page to his site....

i'm going to make one, i have an other kips cover and I do not use it, I'll cut the top and I would have a spacer to the desired thickness for cheap ;)

in the US .250 generally means 250 thousands of an inch, 6.35 mm :wink:

Yes, sorry- .250 of an inch, (about 6mm). I forget that we have so many on here that are more familiar with metric rather than our ridiculous imperial system....

I do not have the FRP torque ring but was told that it is .21 inches / 5.3 mm thick. Here is the link to the FRP site:

I am currently running a torque ring on my 220 hybrid motor. Not so much for the change in torque and I needed the extra couple mm's to have clearance between my pipe and frame. I honestly don't feel much difference, but then my motor is straight stock atm.
