Has anyone run the RB modded head and carb with a cylinder ported by FRP? I already have the RB mods done and thought about sending the jug off for some massaging.

It's been tried before and as far as I can recall, they didn't match too well, bike didn't run well.

Yeah, as I recall it didn't work out so well. Freddettes porting is obviously designed with the stock configuration in mind, likewise for RB's mods. Putting the two together, neither party would be able to guarantee the results...

Whoever cuts your ports should cut your head. Don't see anything wrong with carb mods on anything with a PWK, in any porting configuration....Just don't expect the jetting to be perfect without fiddling on your part. That's all pretty well ironed out on a stock cyl KDX w RB carb.

Mine work well together. I noticed gains EVERYWHERE...I have RICHENED the Carb Circuits Slightly ( a tad larger on the Pilot) & adjust the Airscrew & Needle as Needed....I did Feel a Much Larger Power Increase from the Lower to Mid Range & Top End Response is MUCH BETTER....I asked Jeff to do a Moderate Port Job. I have not ridden the 220 much since i bought the KLX450, but my 18 yr. Old Son, is planning to ride it, so I need to re-install the handlebars, install the New Seat Cover and tighten and re-inspect miscellaneous parts....... :supz:

Carvr had a Fredette port job and replate

If memory seves...
The porting was not so much the problem as was the fact that the bore was out of round and the plating job was complete crap. Cylinder was all pitted as was the mating surface for the head

His memory serves him well. It was out-of-round and the re-plate job was pathetic.

I tried getting that cylinder (ported for improved bottom, no racing, pump fuel...and leave the exhuast alone) to run for at least a couple of years. 1. It never did, and 2. An OEM cylinder worked (and works) MUCH better.

The exhaust port was modified, too. Just a bit of a 'notch' in the middle of the top. The result (apparently..I'm not a Port Doctor..and I don't play one on TV) was a continued battering of the sub-port drums, particularly the RH drum. Broke one in 1/2. The brand new replacement drum had the teeth chewed up.

US Chrome did the replate. The cheesecloth effect they left it with was advertised as a +: A place for oil to live.

BS. :butthead:

Two local engine builders saw the cylinder after it was 'ported'. Both expressed incredulity that such lousy work would EVER leave a shop! And THOSE comments were NOT made about the re-plate.

I don't know who did the port work on my cylinder. I sent it to FRP. Maybe it was 'Billy Bob's' tryout jug.

Every day is a s-l-o-w day where I be.

:hmm:

Maybe there's a connection between the two?

Nah! That couldn't be.
