My 88 had 13/47 stock Maybe (48). I put a 12 on the front and it helped a lot. It took away some top speed but made slower riding much more snappy and I could ride a gear higher. If you ride sustained speeds above 50 mph a lot, and you have a few mods then you wight be happier with stock. Front sprockets are only $10 (plus shipping) so get a 12 and try it. Keep the 13 (stock) for riding in more open conditions or for when you mod the bike to the point it can "pull" the higher gear at lower rpm and still get the higher top speed.
