How's it wearing? Last time I looked at mine the front of the "knobs" were starting to round over just a little. I have maybe 7-8 rides on it. I put a Dunlop TT on my buddies 200 punkin, talk about a stiff sidewall sheesh what a pain, he likes it though.

It's wearing well. I've got about ten rides on mine.

There is a difference between the leading and trailing edges of knobs, but not much.

I thought a soft sidewall was part of what made a trials tire work? I've heard that some are more stiff than others, but hadn't heard that ANY of them thought to actually be STIFF.

I use the dunny's and they are a pain to mount up when new. The have a very tight fitting/stiff bead. The sidewalls flex really well, they are not any stiffer than any other trials tire (Pirelli, IRC) that I have used. My buddy rides the Mitch trials tire and I do believe that the sidewalls are Flexxy'r on them. At least it appears that way. I think the bead is different on the tube vs tubeless tires. I have had to put 70#'s in a new dunny to seat the bead, and that is with plenty, plenty of lube. I mean almost water bed and stripper amounts of lube! :supz:

Yeah, the sidewall of the Dunlop is a little stiffer than the Mich. and the bead is a tight fit. The Michelin went on like butter. Rode today on iced over fire roads and ST, the X-11 was awesome, a regular knobby would have been worthless. The ground was so hard there is nothing for a knob to bite into.

That would be my guess...but I don't know it to be so. I'd think a tubeless bead would be need to be quite a bit closer to 'right' all the way around. With a tube in it...who cares if it's off a bit. It ain't gonna matter.

I've never tried painting a water bed...so never had a need to strip it.

But then...I never had a water bed in the first place.


Another good riding day on my Michelin. On climbs that I could easily accelerate up..Wibby's M5B was throwin' a lot of clay chunks..but most of it was slip.

It's a great tire!!

I will probably try a mitch on next. I'm sold on the dunnys, but I'm lacing up new rims for my CR250 and will go with a trials tire in it. I've seen some really good buys lately on the x-11 that gets it down to D803 price. Plus I hear they are much easier to mount. Price is what has kept me away. We'll see.

A quick look at D803/Michelin prices on the web...I find a number of places the Michelin is less than the Dunlop.


It's time for a change! A lot of that goin' around.......... :wink:

Yeah at the time when I purchased the last two D803's the X-11 was about 25-30 higher. Now I'm seeing that go the other way. Go figure. I have ridden the X-11 on a punkin 3 hunny and it seemed the same traction wise. I figure there are differences just probably too small to really notice. The ease of mounting however would put it way ahead cause the D803 SUX TO MOUNT!

The D803 you are using...is specifically noted as a tube type tire?

Looking at a Dunlop website (dunlopmotorcycle.com), there is NO mention of tube or not. I would expect a tubeless tire to be harder to mount. That not based on any knowledge of the matter..just a 'seems to me' probably, maybe sort of thing.

Does the SIDEwall say one way or the other?

Yeah they are definetly tubeless they say it right on the sidewall.

I think (at least at one time) they made both tube and tubelss. I think Mitch and IRC did the same.

As noted earlier in this thread..Michelin still makes both..tube and tubeless. The tubeless variety is about $100 more than the tube type.

Anyway..that's likely why the are hard to mount. I don't think the bead-form of a tubeless wheel is the same as a tube wheel for one thing.

I think one idea that some users subscribe too is that the tubless (having the stiffer sidewalls and beads) will stay on the rim and allow you to limp back to the truck on a flat. :hmm: Not sure about that one though.

My riding partner said he paid around $80 for his Dunlop, it said Tubeless just like the one in the picture. We put a extra heavy tube in it, seems to work fine, he says thats what the dealer told him to do. :roll:

Inda- that price for the rear tire is 10 less than rmc, some dealers charge a handling fee for shipping tires though.
