Leave the trailer at home!
$170.00 at harbor freight
FWIW, I like this bike hauler.
I added magnetic trailer lights(not pictured) to keep the LEOs happy, and I think it is a very good idea to prevent someone from running into the back of me a destroying my ride(s)!
I also taped a nerf soccer ball to the bark buster as a precautionary measure in the event I bounce the bars against the rear window. Probably don't need it, but I am ALWAYS overthinking stuff

Nice setup! I would encourage you to buy some non-Harbor Freight tie downs at some point.
How tight is your chain? I know the bike is squashed down, so the chain is at its tightest point. I see a lot of people on Facebook Marketplace with chains that look snug when on the kickstand. They must put a hell of a load on the output shaft bearing.

Great looking set up you have. I recently converted to a hitch carrier. My truck is always so full from work anyway that it’s a whole thing when I also want to start loading a bike and gear. Mine is called a Black Widow and also cost $170. I wired it up for brake lights like you did and I’m really liking it. Check out this hitch tightener that I found. It takes all the wobble and slop out of it or your standard trailer hitch. Zoom in on the pic of the hitch.
From KDX’s response…ProTaper tie downs are really nice with built in soft loops. I run 2 on the bars and 2 on the frame and they have a Velcro strap to tie up the loose ends.

Trailer Hitch Tightener, never heard of that before. Thanks, looks helpful.

The HF model came with a trailer hitch tightener which takes the wobble out.
The unit has gone thru some improvements over the years, maybe based ob complaints(?)
Wobble may have been one those.
The frame of the unit is steel now. The older units had more aluminum which most likely caused few problems.

I have a bunch of tie downs, some better than others. Do you think the HF ones would fail? I am not one for cutting costs on such things, but they seem to have the construction to accomplish the task. I have not heard of any tie down failing from any mfg. That said I have seen some that appear to be poor quality.KDXGarage wrote: ↑04:17 pm Nov 24 2022 Nice setup! I would encourage you to buy some non-Harbor Freight tie downs at some point.

Yes, a loose chain is a happy chain. I had just installed that Renthal Twin Ring sprocket(50T), Renthal front(13) and Renthal O-Ring.
Thanks.

Also, IMO the rods thru the wheels for added security are not need for a bike of this weight.
When the tires go down deep thru the carrier, the knobbies grab the the crossbars and you literally have to pry the bike out.
The tires sit on top of those, and they way I have the bike tied down, I don't think it's going anywhere.

It's a great alternative to dragging a trailer when you don't need a trailer. I have three other bikes in my trailer along with a plethora of motorcycle tools and equipment. It is my garage on wheels, because I don't have a garage. I am ion the process of converting may basement into my garage, but that's another story.

I know this is an older thread but if people are searching through I have a motojack rack (similar to MX hauler). I don't use it much anymore since my pickup doesn't have a topper, easier to use ramps.
