1173 to a CEL

I am currently running a 1173 clip in 3rd groove, 155 mj 40 pj. I am getting lots of spoo but runs great through-out, lots of 2nd gear grunt. Also I am mixing at 32:1 as I share gas with my kids walnut sized piston in his 65 (No spoo). With temps. warming I know it is time to lean out the jetting, so when I put the CEL needle in should I go ahead with a 152mj 38 pj? I know it is best to make one change at a time, but if the CEL is gonna let more gas in there it only makes sense. I tried reading the graph on needle tapers, but I am not real clear on it. Oh yeah, the 1173 would be a BP, where is a good position for the needle clip too, Thanks

Just swap the needle to start and then the jets from there. Start in the #3 clip position for the CEL.

I am still trying to sort out my jetting on the 200. I have heard several people recommend the CEL needle over the stock needle. Why is this? What are the similarities and differences?

Before I had the RB mods done, I swapped the stock needle with the CEL. Better throttle response, snappier midrange power.

The taper of the needle is different - more gas sooner.

"more gas sooner"

So does that mean I would need to lean out the lower circuits or leave as is?

Well maybe I will wait untill things dry out before I swap needles. If more gas sooner means more wheel spin when I need to tractor thru on the quad rutted clay "Brown Ice" trails. Wheel spin usually results in the back wanting to pass the front and me on my a$$.

Well the CEL deffinetly fattened things up..way to rich I even dropped the needle to #2 still could not get my a/s tuned. So back went the 1173 with a 38 p/j 153 m/j still grinning like a dufus. I even got poorman RB'd (thumbscrew adjuster) nice.

Yeah I too have found that the CEL or DEL will richen things up significantly. I just have to decide which needle to use - strong mid-range punch or smooth tractability.

How much richer is the CEL needle? Are we talking drastic changes or minor tuning?

You'll need a couple sizes smaller jets to make it work right.

You are talking main jet smaller not pilot right?

What clip position?

What would be the best starting for jetting a CEL needle with

92 KDX
Fatty pipe
stock muffler
Boyesen reeds
no air lid
900 ft
70 degrees F.

Stock carb.

Thanks

skip the CEL needle and use CGK instead for your 92.

Probably around 38-42 pilot and 150mj.
