Thought I was jetted right, but too rich for sure.

A reference for the PWK carbs...

FMF Desert, Boysen Power reeds, FRP torque spacer. 50:1 Dominator
0-5000ft, usually 50-70deg F

I have been running a 42PJ and 155MJ (1173 needle) for the last couple of years and have always though it was jetted fairly close and have gotten lazy about it, little bit of spooge, medium smoke, never fouled plugs. But after pulling my silencer apart (1.5 years on it, 50hrs probably) and it having about a quart of oil in it I have reconsidered. I installed a 152MJ, but I am thinking a 150 is probably closer. What do you guys think? I know I need to go through the whole plug chop business, but it is a bit hard when you live in the city and have to drive two hours to check jetting.

I have a long poker run this weekend in the mountains, so the 42/152 should be fine for now. Maybe I should just buck up for RB to work my carb and head over next week then spend some time jetting.

The RB mods are a pretty nice performance boost but you can also get a lot more out of your stock carb by reworking the jetting with a new needle and different jetting. You might try a CEL needle with something along the lines of a 152MJ and a 42 or 40PJ. Especially with your Rev profile pipe you'll be pretty amazed at the extra kick that was hiding in your KDX. Also if your silencer was that bad you most likely also need to clean your pipe as well. A blowtorch and a metal brush will help break loose the carbon.

Sounds good. I am having a hard time not sending off the carb and head right now, if I did not have a poker run this weeekend I would. I think I will see how it rides this weekend, then probably send it off to Ron next week. I have a 25hr team race at the end of October so if I want to make major changes I better do it now so that everything is dialed in by then. Thanks, Scott

The RB mods are worth the money. If you can spare the extra cash spring for the AirStryker that Ron sells. You get a little more performance out of the mods then and you'll have your stock carby that you can keep running until the AS shows up and then you can sell the stocker to recoup some of the difference in $$$ between the two.

I'd like to ride a well-jetted KDX sometime. I'm at 6,000' and running a 38 pilot, 148 main, 1173 needle on the 1st clip and it STILL feels a little rich. Quite a bit of smoke when rolling the throttle off and on and it doesn't run as strong or clean as either the KX125 or KTM200sx. Hard to believe I need to go leaner than what I have, but maybe I do? Temp's in the mid-90's right now and it's more humid than normal, so maybe I should go a step leaner.

Also, I'm running Yamalube 2R and maybe I should try something else.

A lot of the rich feeling is from the worthless kawi needles. Get a CEL and give it a whirl in the 3rd clip with a 40 or 42 pilot and a 150 or 152 main and you'll get rid of the rich feeling...

I'll do that. I guess I should just get a DEK, CEK, CEL to make up the full order.

Sudco, here we come.

Anyone else need anything? You can piggyback on my order and I'll send your stuff via 1st class mail for actual postage. E-mail me...

I don't think the CEK and DEK work to well in the stock KDX carb, but since you will be getting RB'd... might as well get them huh?

They can work the stock 35mm carby with #5 slide but they are not optimal compared to the CEL or DEL needles.

Bike felt real good last weekend with 42pj and 152mj, 1173. Very little smoke, great throttle response, good looking plug. It still seems a bit rich, but I was at 1800ft and the temp was 90deg, so it will probably be alright as the fall comes closer, I will need to keep an eye on it for winter riding.

Now I have oil coming out of the spark arrestor rivets since I only repacked the main portion, maybe it will evaporate out, probably wishfull thinking.

I was the quietest bike tested for sound that day, 90dB, really shows what fresh packing can do! The tester guy said that stock KTMs are the quietest, about 88dB when new.
