220 jetting...yes I have searched and read up

Post by terez »

I bought a 03 220kdx for my son. We live and ride at sea level in fairly warm temps. Tight singletrack riding only.

The bike is stock and will stay that way this year.

Currently stock jetting 145/42pj and the 1173 needle.

The needle is on the 2nd clip from the top which is one step leaner than stock, previos owner made that change.

Is 2nd clip position too lean for sea level or should I go back to 3rd?

The bike seems to idle and off idle fine at 1.5 out on the as which tells me the 42 pj is fine but the initial throttle response and transition to the main is soft which makes me think the needle is too lean?
I see lots of people spec the needle on the 2nd clip but our sea level are usually needs a bit richer setting than most others.
Always is that way jetting my sleds especially.

Airbox is intact although the snorkel is off.

The 220 doesn't have much of a transition. It's very focused on low end. Sounds to me like you're set pretty well.
