Has any one come across a spring rate chart to give an idea of what rate for what weight for what forks or shock?

Race Tech has one to http://www.racetech.com/

Some seem to think their recommendations are a little high

I disagree, and I could have saved myself a lot of time and money had I just bought the springs Race Tech recommended YMMV

Not much difference for me between the two?

MX-Tech:
Fork: 0.45 kg/mm
Shock: 5.2 kg/mm

Race Tech:
Fork: 0.466 kg/mm
Shock: 5.2 kg/mm

So, I have a complete 99 KX 250 in mind to buy,($500) but should I go with the KX or KDX spring rate? the KX was a little heavier.

You may want to try with the stock KX springs and see how you like them. It's easy enough to change springs later if you decide you want lighter or heavier springs. Front and rear sag measurements and feel will tell you which direction to go.

BTW, are you sure a KX was heavier than a KDX? Doesn't sound right.

According to http://www.mx-tech.com/?id=spring_generator when I put in both the KX should have a heavier spring rate than the KDX. Maybe I am wrong but I know that they are both different.
