wheel compatibility
Can someone tell me if this wheel:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KAWASAKI ... 2742wt_941
will fit forks from a 2001 KX 500. I'm planning on installing these forks on my 2000 KDX200 and have read it's a direct bolt-on, but I still need the KX500 wheel. Is that correct?
If so, will the above linked wheel 88/93 fit 2001 KX500 forks?

I'm not too sure about that one fitting a 2001.... KeepItRoostin is usually spot on with his descriptions. I've bought several items from him.
On the other hand, this guy says '89 - '04... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KX500-KX ... 45efeb49b2
MAKE MODEL YEAR: 1993 KX500
FIT: 1989-2004 KX500
PART: Front Wheel
Try looking up the part numbers on Cheap Cycle Parts and see what you come up with.

You need to see if the axle diameter is the same. If it is, it will likely fit with stock spacers, or at worst, you'll need to cut the spacers to fit. BTW you can get spacer kits from Rocky mountain ATV/MC - the yamaha yz's and wr's are aluminum so you can resize easily with hacksaw and file. (If the axle is smaller in diameter it is very unlikely that a bearing change will work, there's just not enough room for an oversized bearing - but I'm betting the axle size is OK.)
I just fit a 96 kx250 wheel to some 2002 yz forks and triples. Same axle size; modified the spacers to suit the centering of the brake rotor in the caliper and it works like a charm.

No, the kdx axle is smaller and is a different design. The KX500 uses a pinch clamp at the bottom of the forks for both ends of the axle. You could get someone to machine a custom axle, but it would need to have a sleeved nut on one end to work...a PITA and probably pretty expensive to do.bmiller wrote:Would my stock 2000 KDX 200 wheel fit the 2001 KX500 forks?

That's what I've discovered. The "pinch clamp" thing is way different than the KDX style. Does anyone know what wheels will fit on 2001 KX500 forks?kawagumby wrote:No, the kdx axle is smaller and is a different design. Going through every KX500 part fiche, I've found that the 1994 KX500 forks use the exact same front hub as my 2001 KX 500 forks.
I bought this:

I bought several different year wheels from KX's, a 250 (2002), a 125 (1996) and a kx500 (unknown). The hubs were all the same. The differences were in the axles and the axle spacers. They all used the same diameter axles so you can interchange the wheels if you have the correct axle/spacers that work with the forks of the particular model and year you have. The kx250's use a different axle than the 125's and 500's. Like I said earlier, I used a KX wheel with a yamaha fork setup...same diamter axle, all I had to do was use the yamaha axle and fit some spacers. The only wild card when dealing with the unknown year of a wheel is the brake rotor bolt up and diameter. If the wheel has a FOUR bolt rotor attachment setup, you have a later model wheel that should work with anything, based on my own limited experience.
edit: I checked out that wheel, a four-bolt rotor design... good deal!
