Post by KDXsg »

Does Progressive Suspension make springs for the KDX? I've used their springs twice and I've been very happy both times.

Sorry, I don't have any info on Fredette's springs.

I just got a set of XR250 springs off ebay for $1 plus shipping.
The XR250 and XR400 shares the same size forks and frame

Racetech specs this XR250 stock spring as .398 kg/mm which should be
right about what I need for my weight (~190lbs with gear and hyd pack ).
It should still be a reasonably nice ride. The stock shock spring should be good for me. I'm a 35 year old trail rider not a racer...

The XR400 has a softer .382 kg/mm spring which would be OK for a slightly lighter rider, but you'll need a softer shock spring too.

Try the XR250 springs if you still have trouble finding 400 springs. Honda probably made alot more XR250s than XR400s also.

Xr600 93-00 : .41
Xr600 85-92 : .42
Xr650L 93-02: .44
Xr400 00-02 : .40
Xr400 96-99 : .38

It’s the 1996-99 0.38kg/mm XR400 springs that are interchangeable and commonly used in 1995 to 2005 KDX200/220s

The stock 1995 to 2005 KDX 200/220's springs are commonly used to replace the 1989 to 1992 KDX springs, they are a good fit and give much more support in these models.

The Stock KDX spring rate depends on the year of the KDX. The 89-92 KDX's had a .29 spring rate stock. The 95-04 KDX's have a .35 spring rate.

If you have the older KDX200s like the 93-94s with the 41mm forks, you may be able to use the springs from the Xr250s. Same diameter forks.

Xr250 96-02 : .35
Xr250 90-94 : .40
Xr250 86-89 : .38

*I make no guarantees as to fit...

hmm racetech's site specs the 96 xr250 as having .398 kg/mm springs
as stock.
I certainly hope they are not the same as my 99 KDX @ .35 kg/mm

I guess I'll have to wait to measure when they get here.

of course 4strokes.com says these springs are .38 kg/mm just like the XR400. So I guess we'll have to definitely measure them.

I am sure the shop I am using will measure them for me when I drop off my USD forks so I'll know before I get them installed.
