Question for the fork experts here: So when a set of forks are labeled as "46mm inverted telescopic fork", what does the 46mm refer to? Is this the diameter of the fork? circumference?

Ok. Thanks everyone. So how do I figure out what diameter the forks are at the mounting points in the triple clamps? Do I measure the diameter with a caliper? Basically, I am trying to figure out what size yzf forks I have (got them for a very good deal) and which triple clamps will work with them. I am hoping to find a kx clamp that has been used by other people for the fork swap.

To get the diameter of your forks at the mounting points, you would use a caliper and measure the diameter of the forks at the mounting points. Not trying to be a smart ass, but there's not much to it.

Right. With a set of Verniers.

Whew, good thing I followed up. Mine are Venereal Clappers. I'd hate to mislead someone.

Give me a break! The OP was asking about diameter or circumference  so I though a little clarification was in order. I didn't want him whipping out the old math book and calculating 2 pi R.

Thanks for the input everyone. But how do I figure out what triple clamps will work with the yz forks when I can't get my hands on them to measure with the caliper. I certainly can't buy random triple trees until I find one that works....

Some bike of the same make with say.... 46mm forks, should fit any year forks from the same make (or fork manufacturer (i.e kayaba) of the same size... i.e 46mm.

I guess if you have YZF forks you better use a YZF triple clamp. Otherwise you'll likely end up in trouble with wheel spacing.
If you use a YZF triple, you'll only have to deal with the steering stem.

Do you not know what bike the forks came off?

Re: 'The OP was asking about diameter or circumference...'

..but he did use the word 'radius':
Do I measure the radius with a caliper?
Granted, there isn't much to it...but words DO mean things. At this point I have no idea what is understood and what isn't...or the why of either.

The yzf triples should come in the mail tomorrow. I will post my initial thoughts if anyone is interested in yzf swaps.
