Same problem as Dewey!

Post by Rick »

I recently purchased a set of what was thought to be 99' or so YZ forks. Got the forks, tripple, Master cylinder, caliper, and brake line. I bought a 99' YZ Front wheel, with axle and spacers off the Bay. The caliper is missing the pads, and a couple small items. No biggie. After mocking up the front end, the axle fits(its real tight though) but the wheel spacing is way off. Still, not a huge deal. Then, some more parts showed up. I bought some fork guards from Lightspeed. 05' style, that should fit 96-04 YZ forks. Yep, they didn't fit. So. i jumped on here, and looked at Jeb's pic's. He also has 99' YZ forks. The bottoms, where the axle and brake line and guard holes are, are totally different. Now i'm wondering, What forks do I have? The master cylinder is stamped Yamaha. The underside of the top tree clamp is stamped KX125J2. ????????That KX was made in like 93'. After looking through tons of Diagrams on Bike Bandit, for both the YZ and the KX, the one that looks the closest to mine, as far as the mounting holes for the fork guards, and the bottom of the fork itself, is a 2000 KX. The inside of the fork bottoms are stamped K318-L and K318-R. If any of you guys have an idea of what these are, please let me know. ps, my new rear brake rotor showed up too.......It was wrong! Here are some pics......

Those also look kind of like my '03 KX forks. What is the OD of the lower tubes?

They went to 48mm in '03. I'm not sure how far back they were 46mm. I'm pretty sure it was atleast as far back as '98. Someone else should know.

They look like KX forks to me too. Mine are from an '00 KX 125 and all of the tabs and mounts are the same as what you show in your pictures.

The fork guards should be good for 96-04 per about every catalog I've seen - check out the lightspeed webpage and denniskirk for example . . . one of two possiblities: you've ordered the wrong guards or they sent you the wrong guards!! They can't be later than '05 based on the fork cap (and the diam is bigger starting with '05s I think) although I'm very confident they're '00 or later given the diameter of the dampening rod.

I'll remove and bring my guards over Saturday and we'll figure things out

**** EDIT ****

Wait a minute, I reread the post - they're NOT YZ forks ????
