1997 KX 125 USD

Post by saddletramp »

I have a chance to buy 97 KX USD's with clamps from a member. What I am wondering is what year wheel assm. will work with these forks? The forks have been re-bushed with new seals , pretty sure valving is stock. Anyone used 97's yet? Thanks

Just about any KX125 wheel will work, as will the KX500 wheels. Basically, the wheels are the same for all the models up to at least 2002, but the 125's and 500's share the same kind of axle and spacers, the 250's use a different axle and spacers but the wheel is the same. I interchange wheels from a 90 KX125, a 98 KX125, and a 2000 KX250 and swap them out (depending on axle used) between a 2000 KX250 and my KDX220 with 2003 KX500 forks.

Understood, must be nice to have a selection like that. So what about brakes, you must have had to replace the rotors on all your wheels to match your caliper? Or are they all interchangeable

they're all the same diameter. Each wheel gets it's own set of brake pads that go with the rotor (matched for wear).
This works out well for me - I keep one wheel with a mud tire, one with hard pack tire and one general purpose. I got two bent up, broken wheels on ebay and rebuilt them. One got the original rim from my kdx wheel. The other I was able to straighten out with a press. The tires last longer this way and being a lazy guy, swapping the wheel out is easier than a tire change.

The only difference between rotors on the kx's and kdx is the mounting bolts which are larger on the KDX. I drilled and tapped one of the KX hubs to accept the larger KDX rotor bolts.
