top clamp problem
i am in the process of doing a kx conversion using 03 parts .my bike is a o3 200. the top clamp (part #44039) isnt going to fit.at first i thought i was just going to have problems with the little tab on the back of the clamp contacting the tank. i ground it off with my dremel and it still doesnt fit. in fact its not even close. i cant even get the hole in the clamp to line up with the hole in the frame.any help guys?ive read here thats its better to use matching year parts. what top clamp will fit my 03kdx and my 03kx forks?

silly question
what year top clamp did you use inda? do the fork pinch bolts face the front or the rear.is it possible that in o3 the pinch bolts on the top clamp face the rider and not to the front?with the pinch bolts facing the rider it seems like it will fit and not interfere with my scotts tower.with the pinch bolts facing the front there is no way it will fit. sorry for not posting pics

Re: 'it seems like it will fit and not interfere with my scotts tower.'
Is this part of the problem? I doubt a tower that fit the OEM KDX stuff will fit the KX stuff.
Re: 'i cant even get the hole in the clamp to line up with the hole in the frame.'
I don't know what that means. The stem hole? There is no 'hole in the clamp' that has anything to do with any 'hole in the frame'. The top clamp fits over the stem that fits in the hole in the frame, but it just sits there when it's on. It does not directly have anything to do with the 'hole in the frame'
There are differences in the bolt orientation in different top clamps.
You weren't putting it on backwards perchance?
Now THAT might lead to a 'i cant even get the hole in the clamp to line up with the hole in the frame.' situation!
If your clamps don't line up top-to-bottom, you don't have a matching set of clamps.

My KDX tower fits my KX setup. Just needed to extend the pin a tad.
Top bar clamp mount for a KX had to be ordered though.
Pretty painless.... 'cept for the money!

Yes. Your stuff 'fit'..because you changed it to make it fit!
Hey! Aren't your top clamp bolts facing the wrong direction?
